You're right, this is a great trope. I recently used it in my Scion cycle to great effect. One of my PCs, a Catholic priest (Scion of Quetzalcoatl) was profoundly disturbed by his awakening to the world of the supernatural, so he went to his Bishop for guidance. Bishop Hortense determined that this was out of his league, and called up the Cardinal. After putting him on speaker, the PC described his experiences, and the Cardinal responded with "So, the Atzlanti are active again, eh?" and proceeded to completely confirm everything that the PC had been told but didn't believe.
