"PULP" Fiction

Why do I keep old versions of manuscripts, why, why, WHY? We're talking hardcopy. Gi-normous sheaves of paper which could, and probably have, been used as doorstops by publishers before going the rejection route.
Now that I'm submitting again, and revising down to the 'good' stuff so that it would take two to make a doorstop, I'm agonizing over ( Read more... )

LOL!!! Love the 'come slithering back' line! I've been keeping the first and last three chapters and using the inside ones as single sided paper to print up other stuff.
Somehow I feel a teeny bit more eco-friendly when I do this.

I email myself some, too. I've heard about online storage, but since I read City of Ember I'm worried electricity is going to go bye-bye. Of course, some of my older works deserve to be zapped!

I keep flash memory copies of each version and the hard copies with handwritten changes. I'm not sure why, but that's how it goes.

What is Works? Is that novel-writing software? I realize it won't WRITE my novel (shucks), but does it help organize or something?

Works mjdiem October 10 2007, 17:00:08 UTC
Works is proof that I'm very, very old. Years ago, as we were switching from 5.25 inch floppy drives to roomy 10mg hard drives (honest!) the word processing program was called "Works".
It was cutting edge.

LOL! I think writer's tend to be a bit paranoid of losing their work. I have copies on my main computer, my laptop, a floppy, a cd, plus a separate rubbermaid container per WIP with all the hardcopies of drafts, critiques and revisions. My files aren't overflowing, but the rubbermaid containers are piling up!

I like that email thing, though. I need to do that, too!
