paperlegends fic rec yay!

From The Ashes is one of the handful of paperlegends I've managed to read so far and it was highly enjoyable. For one thing, the art for it is, hands down, THE most gorgeous I've seen in possibly the whole Merlin fandom thus far? EVER? Yeah. But also, the fic is great. Warning: MAJOR character death, but it's got a happy ( Read more... )

Huh! I have to admit, I skipped over it because of the major character death. The only other fic I've read were Merlin dies and then is not dead, while well-written, left me sort of sad and adrift. Not really what I want out of fandom. Might give it a try after this rec, though!

And hey, speaking of Snarry and soul-bonding done right, I saw that the epilogue of "Pains and Contradictions", which I've been following for more than a year, is up! If you haven't read it...well, a lot of angst in the middle, but just such good writing and they are so in love, mizu. I cannot even. You should. (HUGE, though- 300k.)

It's actually really fluffy! Like, surprisingly so. So I don't think you need to worry about sadness and adriftness. I honestly would have preferred much LESS fluff, but by anyone's standards this was rather cheerful.

Like I've said before, I really haven't paid ANY attention to Snarry fandom goings ons for like three, four years. So IDK what Pains and Contradictions is. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a 300k snarry read that isn't awful, though, and eeeeeee soul-bonding!Snarry! But I have weird standards and neeeeeds and stuff so could you point me to a story summary somewhere, before I make a 300k commitment?

The author's summary is a bit piddly: When Harry begins to break under the pressures of death and prophesy, help arrives from an unlikely quarter: Snape. Despite their own doubts, manipulations from all sides and hapless interventions combine to bring their two souls together.

Keeping in mind it's been awhile since I read the whole thing: A main character dies and Harry ends up being comforted by Snape. They slowly develop an emotional connection, underlined by increasing attraction that neither plans to act on. Fate (in a very capital "F" kind of way) interferes and bonds them with a soul bond. Snape denies it/refuses to deal with its consequences. They both hurt, at length. Remus is a main supporting character through all this. Eventually Snape gives in and they consummate the bond. Cue superpowers that might, possibly, be enough to defeat Voldemort. Final battle. Happy ending.

So there is this PAX thing and I want to poke you about it, and yet AIM says you are not there! This is inconvenient for the poking. Most inconvenient.
