February’s gone, and I am…actually, I’m only about 3500 words behind, which is a hell of a lot better than I expected to be given how much I was sick this month. I’ve gotten copy edits and a short story done, and, er. 25,000 words on the novel, which is actually quite a decent showing. YTD wordcount is in the region of 70K.

Also, I wrote two books ( Read more... )

After a couple of times reading through all sorts of sing-songy children's books, I tend to build up my own melody to sing them by. In at least one case--Boynton's _Your_Personal_Penguin_--I much prefer my melody to theirs.

...

Maybe we should write childrens' songs together. :-b

No, no, I basically shouldn't be let loose around song lyrics. Bad things happen. You should hear my version of "Mockingbird" sometime... :)

Or mine... which my children sing back to me now...

Hush little baby, don't say a word,
Daddy's gonna buy you a mockingbird.

And if that mockingbird won't sing,
Daddy's gonna buy you a diamond ring.

And if that diamond ring won't shine,
Daddy's gonna buy you a silver mine.

And if that silver mine runs dry,
Daddy's gonna buy you a new neck tie.

But if that new neck tie's too thin,
Daddy's gonna buy you a bottle of gin,

And if that gin should taste real bad,
You'll still be the best he's had.

I was more thinking that I seem to be much better at making up new music than lyrics, but you need both to make a song. If only I had a couple of free years, I'd go get an MA in music or something...

Have we ever pointed out how awesome you are?

(And yes, do go for the children's books - the best ones are always the ones that a parent did for their own children or children they know, whether the classics like The Hobbit or Alice, or later ones.)

Have you seen the Emily Gravett picture books?

'Rabbit problem' is such a beautiful book.

I'd buy 'em both -- I've a grandson that needs a book with a velociraptor in it.
