someone asked…

Someone asked if I could create a page for my blogs which lists the year’s upcoming releases and what I’m working on now. The former, especially, is probably a good idea, particularly for cemurphy.net, but experience tells me that I simply never, ever remember to update a “what I’m working on now” page.

There are three reasons for this. One is that ( Read more... )

On those titles - your publishers must love the way you subtly brand the different series like that. Or is that something they expect from people who went to top sekrit writer skool?

Honestly, I don't know if they even notice. :) I know my Luna editor's aware of my obsessiveness over titles, because I tend to explain in great detail why I think a book should have the title I want for it (marketing does not always agree), but it's really *not* something they expect from authors. Partly because marketing does change titles, and partly because there are lots of writers who are really bad at titles. It just happens that they're really important to me structurally and psychologically in the development of a book, so I put a lot of effort into them. And out of seventeen books published/scheduled, so far only one has had the title changed drastically from what I wanted, so I think I'm pretty good at them, too, which is sort of a handy combination. :)

The inner workings of your mind reveled regarding naming books. I'm fascinated. It was definitely interesting to see how you view the process as an author, at least for your own works.

I'll vote in favor for a running list of upcoming releases. I have to budget my book purchases and keep my own running list of upcoming releases from the authors I really like.

:)

Hope the revisions are going well.

I definitely caught on to the Walker Papers pattern of titles by about the second book. *shrug* That kind of patterning of titles seems to be common with book series in general, though there are tons of exceptions.

I would not have picked up on the "red bird" associations right away though. That's pretty cool. :)

While "What I"m working on now" is probably hard to keep updated, a schedule of upcoming releases probably isn't too terrible I should think? And is valuable marketing.
