Cranky Girl Geek Is Cranky

So I occasionally buy things through Sideshow Collectibles, and I’m subscribed to their newsletter so I don’t miss any information about upcoming Rogue figurines.

Today I got the newsletter and it had a “go vote for the Avatar character you’d like to see as a maquette!” poll, and so, gleeful, I went to vote for Neytiri, because I’d buy a Neytiri ( Read more... )

Really? I figured it'd be a slam dunk that they'd make her first and then offer some others. And don't they already have a maquette of Col. Dickhead? I seem to remember seeing an ad on AICN...

I still haven't bought anything from SideShow, though everyonce in a while I think about snatching up the Moria environment (when it's offer or reoffered). Out of curiosity, which statues do you have? Mostly Rogue? :)

ETA: They do have the Col along with a mech. http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=4489&sku=300032&utm_source=listing-300032&utm_campaign=listing&utm_source=online

Still no clue as to why Neytiri isn't on the poll. Maybe she's already in production?

I thought it'd be a slam dunk, too, which is probably part of why it annoys me SO VERY MUCH that she's not even on the list. And I did think of the possibility she was already in production, so I did a search on the site, but no love. 'Neytiri' wasn't recognized. ALLGHGGH.

Yeah, mostly Rogues and Gambits. I haven't bought anything in quite a long time--there are at least two or three figurine/statue/maquettes out that I don't have, including the Adam Hughes one. If the actual statue was *half* as great as his drawing I'd have snatched it up, but I think the drawing's expression's adorable and the statue's is totally evil.

Isn't that the 'Sideshow Exclusive', the one in the drawing? Or is the whole thing the Sideshow Exclusive?

The whole thing's the exclusive. The sculptor just wasn't good enough to translate the cute of the drawing to the mold. Or opted not to, but given that very few statues reflect their original drawings 100%, usually to the statue's detriment, I'm inclined to think it's a difficulty in translation. (Not that I could do it. But nevermind that.)

It may depend on how the image rights are handled with the Actors. It's not uncommon in bigger pictures for them to have some say in the matter, so they may not have reproduction rights to her image yet (while others were happy to do so).

Yeah, except it's a poll of who collectors would like to see, not a poll of who they've got permission to or have any intention of doing. It's like me putting up a poll asking who everybody thinks should play Joanne Walker in the movies. It's not like I've got a movie deal waiting, it's just for fun!

Ah, I misread, I thought it was produced goods.

Either that, or they are already planning on doing that model so they don't want to skew the results...

That's a vastly more generous interpretation than I'm inclined to offer. :)

information about upcoming Rogue figurines

you hit on why I quite buying most figurines and action figures, I topped out with B5 and Buffy, and after the Library diorama, I stopped cold. Now I stay with Lego and Playmobile Egyptian playsets (and the Eerie Village stuff at Michaels at Halloween if they have any new Egyptian items).. they just go with characters I dont like.

But then, I still have my collection of Evil ... its sooo attractive.
