I has gotten a new swimsuit which fits my tubby little self even though I ate all the food in America west of the Mississippi. Really, I’m pretty sure I did. So now, armed with my new swimsuit, the only thing stopping me from daily swim workouts is the terrible difficulty of getting to the gym.

How about find a retired or semi-retired individual in the area who owns a car (many of them post to run errands) and make a deal to cover their cost and time. It might be cheaper than a cab, AND you are helping out a local.

Well, hiring a cab is helping out a local, too, as the cab companies are all local. Still, not a bad thought, although the Irish as a rule don't do much of anything voluntarily before 11am, as far as I can tell. :)

But it is an interesting idea..certainly knowing someone else is expecting you to turn up helps a great deal.

I know someone in NY who did just that-- he had a membership at the racquet club but seldom used it because it was a hassle to get to. He scheduled a cab to come 4 times a week at 6 AM (ugh!) and ended up going most of the time. He got nice and buff too, though I'll never tell HIM that. ;-) Seriously, it's a good idea and might be worth a try.
