In possibly the fastest-ever reversal on a comic book I’ve ever experienced, X-MEN FOREVER #2 put me off reading the series entirely. I’ll probably pick it up in (softcover) trade, but wow, I’ve never gone from really quite eager to read a series to dropping it that fast. There’s no continuity between 1 & 2. They skipped a huge chunk of action, ( Read more... )

One would think that Marvel, a group who would presumably like to sell more copies of their books, would put up a checklist of sorts for graphic novels and softcover trades that would serve just such a desirable function. I'm hard-pressed to think of a single smaller comic house that does not offer such a list in the back of their softcovers.

And then presumably they think, "…wow, but such a lot of work, somebody else must have done it by now…” :)

Marvel does have /some/ listings, but they're not very thorough.

I can recommend Astonishing as generally a good read with Joss and then Warren Ellis. Also... Well... Hrmmm. Legacy has been good recently but I can't really recommend anything else X right now. It is all kind of crap.

What I am reading that I would recommend without reservation:
Detective Comics
Northlanders
Hercules
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern
Tiny Titans

I think that it would be a whole lot of fun to put something like that list together.

maybe a Wiki site? Wetpaint seems to be a good site for that.

I'm dead serious, actually. My main problem being that I know less than you about Marvel :)

I like non-linear storytelling quite a bit, but not when chunks of the plot thus told come out a month apart, geez.

Of course, I currently read no comics that come out on such a schedule. Or don't come out on the web, for that matter. Unless I'm buying them in trade. So I guess I'm not into the whole coming out a month apart thing anyway. :)
