Regarding the tuckerisation - I got done in Jo Walton's Half a Crown, and was most chuffed when my namesake ended up both prominent and a villain (though he did fade out by the later parts of the novel). His idea of a good time was to take the heroine to a bonfire party - a book bonfire.

But yes - it's probably not a good idea for it to be a gift, unless you know the recipient and have an idea that it would be properly received.

bellinghwoman got a small part somewhere around p98 of Terry Pratchett's Maskerade, but he did ask her first what she'd like to be. Oh, and the stage play thereof changed which character was named after her, as the original role doesn't exist in it. She also had her name borrowed for a character in a James Herbert novel, apparently, but not being a horror reader, she doesn't know which (or if it happened after all).
