Seattle people:

Is it possible to go to the SkyCity restaurant in the Space Needle without buying the touristy elevator ride ticket to get up there? I have no idea if there’s a restaurant-only elevator…

Restaurant dining includes the elevator ride and observation deck access. You have to hit the "minimum dining charge" of $35/person for dinner or $25/person for lunch.

Huh. So do they actually make you buy a ticket for the elevator or do they just stab you for the whole price in the restaurant? Can one, in other words, say, "I'm going to the restaurant," and not pay anything before getting on the elevator?

I think so, if you have a reservation. If my memory is correct, you also avoid the long lines of tourists. Will verify.
