I had a very nice, if not especially *productive* weekend. irishkate and I met for coffee on Saturday, and then since it was raining she drove me home, and then we hung out for another three and a half hours talking. *laugh* So that was fun. And I spent most of yesterday watching Firefly and Serenity, which was also pleasant in a very mind-numbing way ( Read more... )

....yeah, sorry about that but I was fun and it didn't feel like it was that long....

I got up slowly on sunday and thought about gardening. It was sunny so I hauled out the lawn mower and got the front garden cut. I paused for a few minutes and started on the back. About half way through a thunderstorm started. So my back garden looks particularly odd with an uncut patch of grass in the center!

Instead of coming inside and working of course I watched the remainder of Wimbledon.

Before the Net... *sigh*
You know I was just explaining to an intern today that I may be a major network god to him, but I didn't grow up on the internet. Back in my high school days, we had to dial into a bbs and wait hours if not days for a responce to messages. And chatting you had to hope you were on one of the mega systems that had *gasp* 64 phone lines connected in at a time.

I was in college before I had email, and that was on dumb terminals on a vax system.

Even though by the time I finished I was used to windows, though it was still fairly new, I didn't have a computer in my job til I'd been there almost 2 years. That was despite the fact that it was a computer based project!

Yeah, my first email for several years was vax, too. :)

Yeah Vax for emails was a bad thing.
We had a student run computer lab.. some of us had admin rights on the same systems that the professors used. Very easy to change the date on emails so your assignments made it in before the deadline. :)

and I, at the high end of the office, have to put a certain amount of effort into not letting my chair and myself just roll on down to the low end of the office and crash into Ted. :)

*laugh* What a great mental image.

That's why all the pens disappear. They roll under stacks of paper. And if the caps are off, that's the end of them. You find them eventually, but it's too late.
