Good Guys & Responding to Womens’ Sexual Harassment

A friend of mine over on Facebook posted link to this article, Why Women Smile At Men Who Sexually Harass Us, which is a good article full of things that are tiresomely familiar to virtually all women and apparently continue to be surprising to many, perhaps most, men.

I think it’s a good article for men to read, because what prompted her writing

One of the few people I know who will say something is Trevor, and he's hardly Mr Politically Correct, but he has called people out on racism when working behind a bar and they did shut up, because he's also 6 foot 2 and built like a brick shithouse. And we have both thrown people out of the local pub and, regularly, the shop, because you have to: you can't put up with direct harassment. There are ways of being threatening without being violent (I would not go as far as a former landlord who threw someone out for being racist but then put the guy in hospital - I think he actually blinded him in one eye, although that was because the guy came back in and attacked him

My mild mannered, 6'2" barrel-chested massive brother in law once said something to the effect of, "Would you care to repeat that?" in defense of a friend of his who was being insulted by some racist dipshit. The banty rooster dipshit opted, for reasons that I will never understand, opted to punch my BiL, who looked astonished and punched him back and then waited for the bar staff to drag the guy out, because unconscious people can't walk.

That sort of person so often makes really poor life decisions....

...and what most men think of when they think of being sexually harassed in the street is of some cute girl in short shorts wolf whistling at them, not an enormous drunk tattooed thug calling 'Get 'em off, mate! Let's see your bollocks!'

I suspect the world would be a better place if large tattooed thugs were hired to wander around shouting that at men.

There is a commercial that does pretty much that, via an actress (can't remember who) portraying a grown-up Wednesday Adams who hires three very burly men to come to the house of the man who told her to "smile more."

It's kind of pointedly brilliant.
