1.9 million people turned out to vote on Friday, a 60.5% turnout that saw the highest number of ballots ever cast in an Irish referendum.

1.2 million of those people voted for marriage equality.

I'm so proud of my ancestral land :-) I sent a tweet to the pope: "Ireland: this is the future. Get a clue or die as an institution."

Oh, that man, what a heartbreak. I hope he got at least some vindication from seeing such a wonderful change for the better. And a tip of the hat to Ireland for doing it right.

That is indeed a great victory for love. And businesses, since marriage (and - later - its corollary, divorce) is (are) excellent sources of funding for the myriad little industries that work around the concept.
