harrydraco

I wanted to follow up on my post yesterday (which I just unlocked). harrydraco is finally getting new mods, and they are taking suggestions about any changes people want made to the community. I put my two cents in about trolls and moderated posting, but they are also talking about tags and fic searches and other ways to make the community more useable.

You know, I'm a member of harrydraco but haven't posted there in years. I filter it out and only look at it accidentally. I'm not sure why I haven't left it, now that I think about it.

But yeah, it can be seriously cringeworthy. And hey, I'm glad the folks who like to make (serious) posts about what roles Harry and Draco would play in a boyband have a place to go and chat with each other. Good for them. But I don't have to stand there and watch either, you know? :-P

Yeah, but sometimes I find that fascinating in a fan-ish sort of way. And sometimes I just shudder like when someone posted a search for fics where Harry cried during sex. And even then sometimes I can't look away. It's like centaur!Draco in a way.

Yeah, don't ever change, harrydraco

oh, i'm glad that that comm is getting new mods! good, good. i don't usually watch it unless i'm doing an issue for the prophet, but among the cringeworthy, there is indeed good fic there.

as far as book 7 is concerned, i'll probably spoil myself. at the very least, i'm going to read the end first. i have to know how it ends or i will never be able to make it through the entire book.

Oh, I could never read the end first. I'm going away that weekend, after I pick up the book, of course. I plan on reading it slowly before coming back, nice and refreshed, Monday morning to read about all the wank.

That is awesome about harrydraco.

I have just been making sure the one that I mod (that actually is slightly active) is well informed of the no spoilers - unless it is well marked behind a cut. Granted, it is a private community, so there isn't a huge problem.

Yeah, it's good news, especially in light of what we talked about yesterday.

exactly. Now someone can keep a handle on it.

If I had the community friended, my f-list would be burried >__<

Still, when it comes to active hubs for the pairing, it's a great place to post. Not to mention there's always someone around willing to help.

Of course, there are the posts every other day which are just...odd. But its kind of nice to have a place where anything goes as long as it's focussed on some H/D lovin'

I think the oddness that thrives at harrydraco makes it special. I would love to see more uniformity with fic posting and fic searches though.

And I know there isn't anything you could do about this but I would really love it if people didn't mess with their font sizes when they posted fic. Man, making your font 18pt Times Roman does not make it easier to read.

I actually do have it friended and read it, usually daily (albeit last in my chain). Mostly because I feel a little bit obligated to give back to fandom, and everyone else on my flist is light-years ahead of me on most things. So if I can give a little encouragement, or if I remember a fic they're looking for, or a rec that fits their theme that isn't the same old ones that get recced all the time, then I feel like I'm doing something to bridge that gap.

So the changes are all for the good, I think.

I agree with you. I don't have it on my flist at the moment, but I usually check once a day, even just for a quick scroll. I like the fic searches and seeing what other h/d readers are up to, like I wouldn't have had any idea that Harry/Draco cat fics had become such the rage, and as I said to emmagrant01 upthread, I'm fascinated with the fan-ish peculiarities that thrives over there, like manip-ing Tom Felton into a centaur or crossing H/D with bandslash.

Yeah, it's almost like a separate fandom. Every now and then they do a call for "who are you" posts, and nearly all the replies are gals between the ages of 16-19, so I shut right up.

But every now and then, I get surprised with a treasure, like an author I never read before who posts something that's complete, and I'll bite and like it.

Definitely, there were a few newer authors that got serpentinelion invites after discovering their fics at harrydraco. I do think it's the best place post your fic if you want people to see it.
