I established a dreamwidth acct a few LJ scares ago. I'm happy to jump ship with everyone else if legitimately everyone's going there, but let me tell you how I've not loved trying to rebuild my connections to friends. I saw you connect with me there. I'd be interested in the problems you have found - my "solution" was not to hunt for anyone but just to bring in my LJ friends list and see who had secured the same name on DW. If people changed names between the two services they're going to have to tell me about it.

how did you "bring in" your LJ list? is there an automated way to do that? (my understanding is DW grants access to LJ accounts, but doesn't automatically link your friendslist to the same names on DW... and manually doing that is a pain i have not debugged yet.)

Log into DW then go to http://www.dreamwidth.org/nav/organize

It's not inherently obvious some of these things are dropdown menus - not great design on DW's part.

Under Organize there's an Import Content option that should take you to https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/importer

From there you can see a button at the bottom for "Start Another Import". Click that and it should guide you through the options for how to import your stuff.
