She was probably very happy to have you there with her. That seems to be a big fear - not just death, but dying alone. Finding a balance might be hard, but I know you can do it. No matter how tough it gets, how tough you make yourself, hang onto that compassion. It's because of that compassion that she was able to leave with a smile. If you could do that for someone, then I think you're well on your way to being a good nurse. *hugs*
Thank you so much Deni, that's really good advice, and it means a lot to me. I'm happy I could make a difference to her, so I'll try to hang on to my compassion. It's just such a shame. Her daughter was only a couple of years older than me. I rang my own mother right after, and told her I loved her. I guess being so close to death makes you think about what's important to you, too. *ponders stuff*
But I shan't dwell on it too much. I have my own life to live, and I shall live it fully for as long as it's mine. =) Thank you again, lovely Deni. And congratulations again on member of the month!!! *smothers with affection*
That's true. Sometimes we don't realize how we take things for granted until something like that happens. Death is heavy and is really "food for thought" in a sense.
And that's a very good way to live!! ♥ You're most welcome, dear. I know you have it in you to be a great nurse. Ganbatte
That's very kind and sincere of you, Miyu. I'm sure that woman found comfort in having you hold her hand, and giving her something soothing to listen to. Even if she seemed far away and out of it, I'm sure she could feel your hand and hear your words on some level.
I'm sorry you lost someone close to you. Even if she was just a patient, but it's that tender heart that will make you a wonderful and caring nurse. Sometimes it seems like people in the healthcare profession lose a sense of genuine empathy after the grind of seeing patients go, but I think it's that sense of caring that keeps you human.
But still, what a heart sore. I hope these past couple days have been gentler on you. <3
