The narration cannot be certain because of their general sneakiness, but intel suggests two spies just entered the bar. They both appear to be rather worse for the wear, due to super sekrit rogue spy mission ( Read more... )

Bryce grunts under Charles' weight, despite his best intentions. The other man is tall, and heavy with muscle and government secrets.

...and there's the part where Bryce might be bleeding somewhere, but he's ignoring it. No pain, no gain, after all.

CHARLES IS TRYING TO STAND UP, THANK-YOU-VERY-MUCH.

But he keeps... flashing on things. It's making his head feel frustratingly like someone is repeatedly smashing it to a pulp.

So he will help more when that stops. And with the bleeding, too.

(It would also help to be conscious of his surroundings, of course.)

Bryce just grimaces, worried about Charles but knowing he'll pull through. He finds an out-of-the-way booth and sets Charles down gently before going back to grab medical supplies for the both of them.

"It'll be better soon, buddy. I promise."

Charles makes a vague noise that is meant to mean he heard (mostly), and that it had better.

It was also meant to inquire as to Bryce's health, but Charles sort of gave up and curled up in the booth. There are no words for how much his head is killing him right now.

Good thing someone got scooped up still in his medical scrubs, huh?

Devon has just settled in with an outdoor sports mag when an extremely ragged-looking pair comes in through the door.

Doctor's instinct has him halfway to them before he recognizes the guy who's worst off.

"Chuck?"

This sinking feeling of horror is, apparently, the downside of having a brother-in-law who's a high level CIA asset.

THIS IS NOT THE CHUCK YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. AWESOME CAN GO ABOUT HIS BUSINESS. MOVE ALONG.

In other words, Bryce is swiftly sneaking away (or as swiftly as you can move with a 6'4" man in fireman's carry).

Not so damn fast, guy Devon doesn't know!

"Hold it!" he yells, starting after them. "That's my brother you got there! And I'm a doctor!"

This is, for the moment, the exact order of importance for these two facts.

"Nggggh," adds Charles into the conversation.

Maybe it means he recognises Devon!

Or it could mean 'I have never met this person before in my life'. So much is lost in translation.

That big rock guy over there who's eating peanut butter straight from a CostCo sized jar? Totally not a spy but his is good cover.

Bryce doesn't notice him at first, his efforts being too concentrated on a) making sure he and Chuck stay hidden as much as possible, and b) making sure Chuck stays alive.

CHARLES IS ALIVE.

And he feels that 'Ded of Intersect' on his grave was never going to be possibility, thank-you-very-much.

But he and reality aren't really bffs right now, you know? Too much information crowding in his head.
