That noise you hear is not noise, dammit. It's Iron Maiden's Live After Death, recorded at Long Beach Arena and the Hammersmith Apollo in the year Leah was born and she'll throw things at your head if you call it noise.

Of course, if you want to complain about the hijacking of the sound system, find the girl in blue jeans at the pool table, ( Read more... )

"Whoa."

She's being watched, all right, by a smallish girl of eleven. She's wearing a sundress over blue jeans, and her eyes are wide and her smile is a little shy.

"My mom can do that," she says. "But I don't know hardly anyone else who can." She's a ways away, watching from over the back of a couch. (The music got her attention.)

Leah's already grinning by the time she looks up - and she looks up before potting four balls at once because she's a huge show off.

"Your Mum's a snooker player? Or just flashy?"

Leah's just flashy.

Laura's smile widens. "Just flashy. Um. She plays pool." She's a little unclear on what snooker is.

"I'm Laura," she adds. It's not quite blurted. "Laura Bailey."

Leaning back against the table, Leah points at Laura with a single finger gun.

"Michael and Robert's lil' sis, right? I'm Leah."

One person who wouldn't dream of calling it noise is hanging around, watching Leah practice, obviously impressed.

She's also humming along with the music, quietly.

Anyone humming along with 2 Minutes to Midnight is AOK in Leah's books. She looks up to acknowledge the great taste in music, and ends up grinning even wider.

Nice rack.

"Hey."

"Hey back. Nice moves." Faith gestures at the pool table. "Been playing a long time, huh?"

"Since I could reach the table," Leah answers, turning away to lean back against the table in question. "Never bother with pubs that not have a pool table."

Rose does not normally listen to heavy metal music, or play pool. One of those things will probably change someday. Maybe even today!

She is trying to do her homework by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate, but that music is totally distracting and loud. Not that she was looking for a reason to be distracted.

She looks up and over to the pool table, back down at her textbook, back over to the pool table for a longer moment, then gets up. She brings the mug but not the Morte d'Arthur.

She's a tallish girl in a purple sweater dress; the boots make her a little taller, although it's more thick soles than a real heel. Her new haircut is short, and flips up at the back. She's not sure whether or not she hates it. "Hey," she says. "Uh. What is this?"

"Maiden."

Leah doesn't look up until after a particularly difficult shot, and gives a wide, hello pretty lady smile.

"Unless you meant pool, but I'm gonna go with the music. Too loud?"

About three seconds ago, Rose would've said yes. That goes neatly out of her head.

"No," she says quickly. "'S cool. I just... don't listen to a lot of heavy metal." She shrugs. "More of an R&B girl."

"And... I know what pool is, yeah." Small laugh.

Leah tuts softly, shaking her head.

"Don't know what you're missing." Not that she likes R&B. The world would be dull if we were all alike, &c. "The recording doesn't do 'em justice, they're fantastic live."
