River Tam, Firefly, Thataways

Seated gracefully on one of the bar stools is a teenaged girl sipping an orange soda ice cream float, legs tucked neatly under the stool, for balance.

Of a sort, anyway.

She probably won't object if someone should wish to speak to her. Or, at least, it won't be easy to tell, which is almost the same thing, right?

Severus Snape rarely wishes to speak to anyone -- but to a telepath, he is an island of silence in a sea of noise.

That alone makes him, perhaps, noticeable.

It does instigate at least a cursory glance.

Maybe she's looking at the wall behind him, though.

It's hard to tell.

There's a little boy peering at her drink in interest.

"What are you drinking?"

"It's orange," she says, presently.

It's possible she looks just a little bit fascinated by him. Possible.

If she can see his mind, the narration doesn't blame her at all.

Actually, if she can get a good look at his eyes the narration doesn't blame her, either. But Barty doesn't seem to have noticed.

"Is it soda pop?"
