Max has been outside since before sunrise, practicing his marksmanship. When he walks in at around 11 o'clock, he's carrying in a stack of paper targets, all of which have been shot straight through the center.
Max hasn't noticed Ben, just yet. After the trade off of targets-for-lemonade is done, he turns on his heel to lean against Bar and observe the goings-on.
And that's when he notices Ben.
Hmph.
