The Door morphs into a pair of sliding doors, which whoosh open and admit a lanky young man with curly hair and a dark suit and also an armload of books. And a peeved expression which gives way to a scowl and an increasing amount of shouting

"Er... They're good nachos, at least."

Martin's trying to be helpful. He's just a bit gobsmacked by the guy's appearance. Don't worry. He'll get over it. Eventually.

"Yes, it looks that way, but why are they carrying them?"

Gareth looks up at the speaker and his eyebrows go up; he stands up to more efficiently stare at the unfamiliar yet familiar man. "Are you another one of my descendants?"

They don't look exactly alike. CG's considerably taller and has a mop of unruly dark curls, and even their facial structure is a little different. But the resemblance is striking. They could be brothers.

Martin's a bit thrown by that question. The second one, not the first. He could answer the first one fairly easily, but he's forgotten all about it.

"How could I be your descendant?" he asks. "We're practically the same age."

Beat.

"Aren't we?"

Fucking Milliways.

"I'm a clone. The original me is nearly two hundred years old and he's had at least two children." Gareth scratches his head. "And I have to remind myself that he's 'the original', not my future self."

"I'm twenty. Effectively. But I was originally from 1875."

He seems to think this is sufficient explanation!

"Oh, hello Sk--" Arthur stops and looks the new-comer up and down. "You're not Skip. You sort of look like him though. Are you his brother?"

"Who's Skip?" Clone Gareth stands up. "I don't have any brothers that I'm aware of, but we could still be related."

[halftwinkly]

"Skip's the pilot," Arthur says. "But I suppose he's somewhere else today. His real name is Martin Crieff. What's yours?"

"Gareth Tennenbaum. The second. Why do people call him Skip?"

Due to not being particularly sure where the thread will go, the narration is choosing not to reference the above thread with Martin!

"My Nachos," Alec says, not liking the guy staring at his food.

"I'm not going to take your food!" And he's back to crabby.

"Well, good!" He takes his nacho's covetously. "You act like you've never seen a rat before."

"Of course I've seen rats before. The unexpected part is that they're carrying plates of food around." Clone Gareth stands up. "Why are they doing that? Or do you know?"
