Oh look, it is a scruffy doctor with a giant book under his arm.

Jordie's slid into the seat opposite. The book makes a resounding thunk on the table. "This is heavy," he says by way of greeting, "so I'm gonna sit down for a minute. But then I'll go away."

He also has a lowball of something amber. It does not make such a loud thunk as the book.

"So they can study something else," Matt says, a little stubbornly.

"Like the mercy and ethical behavior of Prospero, even though he's a powerful sorcerer who could technically just do whatever he wanted so it counts for more."

Pause.

"Fine. I'll reread it."

"And maybe you'll find something that'll help," he says peacefully.

Matt smiles ruefully.

"Maybe. Yeah."

"Or, you know, something new to triangulate."

[tantric_slacker]

"Hey," Matt protests.

Jordie grins at him, completely unabashed. "What?"

"... Well."

Touche on the triangulating?

Matt shakes his head, reaching for the knight. "I guess I should have studied up, or at least it couldn't have done any harm, just-- things having to do with magic, even tangentially, can-- kind of get away from you?"

"...isn't that more reason to study up?"

"It's ... a reason to acknowledge that the things that humans can study will only take you so far. I'm still going to read the play."

"That logic makes no sense." Jordie is shaking his head.

And then he flags a passing rat to get a refill on the whiskey, because Jordie is into good life decisions!

"Seriously, try magic sometime," Matt says, pained.

"It is systematic. There are parts of it that you can explain to people. And admittedly most of this situation right now is magic-adjacent. But. Logic. Is something we made up."

"I just don't see why you wouldn't go for all the knowledge possible before taking on a known entity who has a famous play written all about him and his issues."

"You mean why I didn't?"

"If you're up for hindsight, sure." Jordie shrugs.

"Word on the street is it's the best there is," Matt sighs.

And shrugs himself.

"I wasn't ... exactly expecting to talk to him. I think not preparing was my stupid way of acting like I wasn't really going to confront him."
