Utena-Yuugiou Analysis

Revolutionary Girl Utena can be compared with much of anything.  It can be a daily metaphor for life, it can be an interpretation for a novel or situation, it can even be closely compared with another anime.

Two very prominent roles in both Yuugiou and Utena are the duels, the plainest and obvious similarity between the two shows

Oh really? That sounds cool! I've only watched the English versions of the Millennium Arc (I think I only watched the Asian versions of Doma since it was my fav :3); and in the manga, Bakura/Zorc keeps underestimating Yuugi and friends. And then they end up killing him. >.>;;

I think the first time I ever compared Yuugi and Anthy was reading a vampire-fanfic and thought the plot was similar to how Anthy lived with Akio. And now the image-bunny of YuugiAKAAnthy keeps popping up. Dx

Than the real Bakura is still in there and is so emo that he makes fun of Yuugi on purpose so he can get killed faster! Actually, soundclips would be fun to hear if you have them..? "8D

I'm not sure what to make of that, though. The crack I just came up with in a span of five seconds might even be true...or not.

It could just be Zorkura mocking him. Yet, since Bakura hates Yami, he may see a bit of himself in Yuugi. He may think that Yuugi thinks that Yami's always outshining him -- and since Yami is going to heaven, and Zorkura represents hell, he may think he's relating to Yuugi by referring to him as "above" Yami, as Bakura wants to be.

Yes, finish watching Utena (even though I have already blurted some spoilers for you)! Then maybe you can do the Doma/Black Rose essay-thing! "x3 If I do it, I'll just sound like I'm fangirling Puzzleshipping again. Because, uh, you know... "Aiiii-boooooouu!!" ...*shot!*

Hello, loved your post. I only went over the Anzu vs. Mai duel as I'm still making my way through the Ancient Egypt arc. I was particularly struck by the observation that Anzu makes herself into a damsel-in-distress for Yami no Yuugi, which brings a whole new angle to the Yami/Yugi/Anzu dynamic that I hadn't considered before. I'd recently downloaded the japanese version of the Anzu Mai duel episode, and so I thought that I'd bring up some differences between the US and the Japanese version

Oh, I'm so glad you're not mad! I was afraid that Anzu-fans would hate me for the "damsel" comment, even if Anzu's my favorite female in the show. And peachshipping's my second favorite

I would never get mad at anyone for pointing out the flaws of the characters that I love. When I love a character, it's for the whole package, strengths and weaknesses. I have no need nor desire to pretend that Anzu has no flaws, because those flaws, together with her strengths, are what make her interesting

Oh, you really sounded as if you've already watched Utena that I assumed! "xD But I'd only recommend it if you're into hardcore symbolism/theme. The first few episodes are quite wacky, though. ":D
