I think, given that the class of 09 has sent in all their forms and whatnot, they should be eligible to be called "freshmen" and not "prefrosh". Anyone feel like dubbing them?
After lottery submission, you stay in the temp room until after the houses have run in-house rush (if you switch dorms in the lottery, you go to the new dorm for in-house rush, even though your stuff and your body do not reside there yet). I think perhaps last year the lottery submissions were due on a Friday (Thursday?), results were up Saturday morning, in-house rush was Saturday night, and everybody moved Sunday.
Those dates sound right -- last year, I moved from my temp room to another dorm entirely, on the opposite side of campus, and I was amazed at how smoothly the transition went. People ran vans, a force of helpful frat guys helped lug stuff around, it all seemed really organized. So -- just another reason to make sure to give other dorms a chance after your temp assignment.
According to the Housing website, you '09ers get your places July 25th -- you can go log in to their site then and see where you are. I seem to remember the site being (frustratingly) slow as molasses last year when I went to check my assignment, presumably because everyone else was doing the same thing at the same time, so you may have to be a little patient...
the housing website should tell you when you will find out about housing. last year it was sometime like july 26 or something. you'll be able to go back to the lottery site, and it will tell you your temporary housing. as molliebat said, you'll stay in the temp room during orientation, while looking at the dorms, then you enter the lottery again, choosing either to stay at the dorm you're at, or to switch dorms. then once the results are up the next morning, in-house rush takes place generally the next day, each dorm is different.
i think the schedule is a little different this year at orientation. i feel like the lottery is on a tuesday now, which would make in house rush on a wednesday. cant be sure though.
