Am I alone in thinking that the refrain from Florence Quits in the first act, reprised in The Deal [No Deal] in the second act, is actually the single best piece of music in Chess? I mean, don't misunderstand me, the entire musical is audio gold, but that particular refrain seems so powerful, yet so underused.

Who'd ever think it ( Read more... )

Amen to that. RTD seems to have the whole, "LOL I HAS LIVE-ACTION FANFICTION HURR HURR HURR" thing going.

Having said that- I really felt that Moffatt was missing his usual fire in the last season. I do hope he's gearing up for his usual depth-and-fire in the next, else he'll be seriously wasting the potential of Doctor-Smith.

Agreed that Moffatt is vastly superior - he's not Terry Nation, but he's certainly a match for Pip and Jane Baker. I'm sure he won't disappoint in the long term with the new Doctor. By my reckoning, they only have one more regeneration before the Doctor becomes the Valeyard and kills himself.

So true, so true. I do love Moffatt, bless him. I was surprised at how well Mark Gatiss wrote, actually, as League of Gentlemen isn't that clever imho.

I've been surprised at Gatiss's recent career, too - I'm with you on League of Gentlemen - but Gatiss's Dr Who scripts, and in particular Sherlock, are definitely top tier.

Agreed wholeheartedly on Gatiss- a real surprise there! I honestly wouldn't have taken him seriously if I'd just read he was writing- actually seeing his scripts in action really blew me away. I mean, The Gelth? Come on! They're terrifying!

The Gelth were very well-handled - the most creepifying thing I'd seen in Who since Curse of Fenric

Agreed on that. Nightmare territory there, imho.

On a completely unrelated note, GDub seems to be serious about relaunching the Dark Eldar - the new Wych and Hesperax models are astonishingly well-done. Now, if only they'd give Ordo Hereticus the update we've been waiting on for years...
