1997--Elseworld's Finest (part 2)
In the second part of Elseworld's Finest, Clark, Jimmy, and the Langs are kidnapped by Luthor, who wants to find the lost city of Argos and the Godstone. In a shocking move, Clark tells him he won't help, at which point Luthor shoots him and throws him out of his plane to his apparent death as Lana and Jimmy watch in horror. But Clark comes to and finds someone standing over him...

They arrive to discover that Ra's and Talia have beaten them there. Ra's grabs the Godstone and it reduces him to dust. Clark hears the Godstone calling to him and touches it, and is transformed into the Last Kryptonian, sent to Earth to rule its people. Bruce has some problems with this:
Eeeeeek! Death by hug!
Luthor shows up and grabs the Godstone, Jimmy tries to stop him and is taken hostage:
While Bruce battles Luthor, Talia creates a Lazarus Pit and immerses Clark in it. He emerges alive and free of the Pit-madness and charges off to save Bruce and Jimmy, seize the Godstone and destroy it.
Old adventurer Clark and Bruce! Aww!

So...this AU ends up with Clark/Talia and Bruce/Lana, it seems! And based on the photo, I would say Bruce and Lana adopt Jimmy--that is some major crack, right there! And Clark and Bruce as total BFF is so far ahead of its time for 1997, it's a fascinating take on the two in a very different setting...
