1999-2000 is a pretty clear watershed in Clark and Bruce's friendship. There are probably a variety of reasons for this--one key is that the people writing several important titles were clearly fans from the age when Superman and Batman were buddies. This is another interesting thing about

Alas, I admit, I'm not able to remember all the history after first reading (added this page to my memories :)). I loved the title - "Best friends again". But the last part got me a little worried - the
idea that their relationship could change after Bruce's return scares me.
And reading "Divided we fall" (oh well, be careful what you wish for...) I found one thing interesting - Clark being nervous of heights. Reminded me again Smallville - Clark really doesn't like heights there. (It's getting better now, IMO. But it was pretty obvious in previous seasons. :)) I wonder if you don't know - do heights make Clark nervous in other comics as well? Or it was only in this story?

I haven't seen any sign of it at all, it just seems that if they were to enter a new period this would be a logical changing point, so I'm going to have an especially sharp eye out when he gets back. :)

I think this is the only story I've seen it--definitely a side effect of being split off entirely from his Kal-El side, in this case. It's definitely not usual for him--maybe when he first got his powers, but since he's been flying since 16 or so he's more used to it than Smallville Clark. :) (I have to post scans from Secret Origins and his new origin story too! Darn!)

I've seen fics that play on the canonical idea that Clark and Bruce will kill for each other...it's pretty much right there in canon (I mean, Absolute Power is quite clear), so I can't fault people taking the idea of the intensity of their bond and running with it, but it makes me uneasy to see it in a fic if they actually carry through on it. For me, each of them might be willing to take that final step, but if they're ever ready to, the other one will always take that step back. That's part of how they work as checks and balances to each other, and goes along with how if Clark despairs, Bruce is always there with the hope for him.

Ooooooh, I don't think so! *goes looking*
I got quite a kneejerk reaction with the public SB fight in Cooke's New Frontier too, and then we got to know what actually happened it totally a "TADA! GOT YOU!" moment, and in a very good way of course. :)
LOL, I know! Cooke totally got me as well, I was so cheesed off at him for just perpetuating the Miller take and damn it they're--oh. Oh, well. Okay. :P I loved it!
