“Would a war-stallion of Rohan be content to live in the Shire and give rides to small hobbit-children the rest of his days?” Thorin asked.
Petunia snorted and bared his teeth at Thorin, then went back to begging Bilbo to keep petting him.
Lovely.

Petunia MAY actually be the reason this chapter ended up getting published, because I realized I didn't want to have Thorin and Bilbo forget him! And oh, your comment means the world to me, finding those moments is a huge reason for writing for me. I'm so happy to share them with you!

“I like it as well,” Thorin said, and even with his eyes closed, Bilbo could hear the smile in his voice.
Awwwww! That's a lovely little interchange - I hadn't realized they hadn't traveled alone together either!
“Orc arrow,” he said lightly when Thorin indicated the lame leg with a glance. “He did not live to gloat about scratching a dwarf-warrior!”
Balin! I'm so he's been spared in this verse!
In front of them stood a tall figure dressed in green, his silver hair loose around his shoulders: Celeborn, Lord of Lothlórien.
Eeeee, Celeborn! I'm so pleased we got to see him again!
“I am majestic no longer,” he said, “But merely Thorin Oakenshield, soon to be Thorin Baggins, if I understand the customs of the Shire.”
“You do,” said Bilbo, blushing and adding in a lower voice, “And you are always majestic.”
*squees and flails* Also, Bilbo!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! PETUNIA! PETUNIA! PETUNIA! :D :D :D
Petunia was the other reason! He had to make it back to the Shire with them!
*flails and squees and hearts them both* Oh, how wonderful it is to have them both content and happy and without and urgency or quests hanging over them...
I knowwww, the reason I almost didn't post it is that there is no urgency and so it doesn't quite...you know...move the story forward, but darn it, they deserve that time together and I'm so happy to dwell on it a bit...
ASDGHLHLSKAKSKF!!! Oh, these lines, these lines-! They actually made me tear up, just-! *wibbles and flails and hearts Bilbo and Thorin and this whole story SO MUCH*
They made me tear up writing them, so I'm glad! Oh Thorin, oh Bilbo...

The great purple-black stallion neighed joyously and kicked at the sides of his stall as he heard their voices.
:D
Petunia snorted and bared his teeth at Thorin, then went back to begging Bilbo to keep petting him.
Sweet. :)
“There could be no fairer weather than that in which I first met you,” Bilbo said gallantly.
Lovely said.
“Your finest room for myself and my fiance!” Thorin roared above the din. .
WOW!
“That time is past. The world is wide, and we have seen much of it, and now we return of our own free will for our well-deserved rest together.”
YES!
No more grand adventures,” he said again, and then added in a whisper, “Except perhaps the very last. With you.”
“Always,” said Thorin. AWWW! *hugs them both ( ... )
