What a council this will be! Every chapter of this tale is a gem. It's hard to pick out one thing I was most delighted by, but perhaps this...

“Which one?”

Galadriel frowned at Balin’s question. “Most of them, I think.

Such a delightful idea!

I have to admit, after reading that there's a version of the story where Galadriel actually stays in Khazad-dum for a time when she passes over from Eregion to Lorien, I...I kind of started shipping her and Durin just a bit. @_@ Nothing too intense, because I'm stubborn about Legolas and Gimli being two of the first to truly thaw relations, but I like the idea that they would have known each other and gotten along a lot!

You know, I should have predicted that the Council parts would give me trouble to write, as I always found it hard to read in canon! I've just finished that part, but it got long and convoluted and I had to break it into more manageable chunks...on the plus side, I'm hoping that means a more steady posting schedule through August!

Ah, so perfect! I love all the little hints that we can understand, but non of the character yet do. Also it fills me with happy glee that the council is now held in this setting and has Elves in dwarven halls. :D

And Bilbo, he's just such a dear, not friends with a certain wizard, but basically with everybody else. His crashing down in their chambers was a wonderful moment. “Natural doesn’t always mean easy", indeed.

“I’ll borrow that prayer sometime, if I may,” murmured Bilbo, and Thorin decided it was best to pretend not to hear him.

:D They are just dears, both of them.

I am getting such a kick out of writing that, I admit it. It's just the kind of thing that's catnip to me... And yesss, having the Council on dwarven turf is really oddly satisfying! An Erebor that never fell really changes the geopolitical dynamics of Middle Earth (she says geekily).

There should be more quite soon--the Council must barrel on! :)

I may have made the most delighted sound--it was probably more of a squeal--when Arwen started talking about Gondor and history and-and-and....that I scared the cat. Lord Zachary will be having a word with you later.

LORD ZACHARY. I'm just going to sit here and be thrilled about that. :) And it's worth offending him to get that kind of reaction from you! Arwen's big secret that Thorin and Bilbo kind of half-guess at makes me oddly happy to write...

Oh, god, I don't know where to start! So much happening in this chapter! So many hints and suggestions! I'm pretty sure I know what is between Galadriel and Arwen, but we'll leave that for now. I do love that Bilbo seems to get along with everyone. Except Saruman. Someone like that would make me edgy, too. Even if I didn't know what happens with him in the actual books, I'd be wary. He's very single-minded about the ingenuity of the dwarves, isn't he? Poor Legolas doesn't have his Gimli to talk with yet and put him at ease with dwarves. ;) And Denethor reminding Thorin of himself! HEE! Bilbo sees it, too! *rolls around in the new chapter* LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!

It's interesting, I think Bilbo is kind of cranky about his own space, but once you put him on unfamiliar territory he'll get along with just about everyone. And poor Legolas! I'm not going to leave him Gimli-less forever, I kind of meant to and he just sat down and refused to move a step further. :D

Her smile took on a hint of sadness. “I would never, my old friend. It was a vision in my Mirror that convinced me that I was needed here, as well as Prince Legolas, visiting from the Greenwood. A vision that told me my path would lead me back at last to Khazad-dûm. More than that, I cannot say..”
Hmmm...

The dwarves stared at her, and she seemed to put aside dark thoughts, her face clearing as clouds pass from the moon, leaving it bright and pure once more. “I remember this corridor,” she said in a low, happy voice, and hurried ahead of her guides to a door at the end of the hall, touching the handle as if taking the hand of an old friend. She turned and smiled at them, a smile of utter radiance, unselfconscious and full of joy. “Your majesty, may I stay here?”
“My lady,” said Balin, and Bilbo heard a deep respect in his voice that had not been there before, “The Lapis Room is yours for as long as you desire.”
WOW. It was nice to see Galadriel smiling :)

Some friendships were quickly born: Théoden and Elrond’s sons soon discovered ( ... )

She has a lovely smile the few times we've seen it! I do think it makes her look very young, somehow...

Elladan and Elrohir getting angry on behalf of Aragorn just makes me happy somehow...even if I feel kind of bad for Denethor, who is prickly but does want the best for his city!

I hope you have a wonderful vacation and I just wish it weren't short, you deserve all the relaxing time in the world! *hugs*
