So sorry I haven't been commenting, rest assured I'm loving this series as much as ever.
All the goodbyes were gorgeously in character.
Kíli's lower lip was trembling and he rubbed his sleeve across his face. "Mother says it's not shameful to weep at partings," he muttered.
Oh dear dwarfling prince. You make me wanna pinch your cheeks!
Bilbo brightened. "That's a good point! I can bring more biscuits and sweets then."
Balin smiled as if Bilbo had somehow missed the point, but all he said was "Those would be pleasant too."
I can just imagine Balin's smile. :)
I would no more keep him here than try to trap Spring in a bottle." So poignant. And it's an interesting thing to think about - how *would* Bilbo fare in a rocky mountain that is so unlike the Shire? He could certainly thrive there, but it would be a difficult process of adapting to a whole new environment, especially if he becomes part of the royal family! And of course, the "do not speak to me of this again" bit was just so so beautifully angsty ( ... )

I'm so glad! I don't require constant comments at all, don't worry, but I am happy to know you've enjoyed it!
I can just imagine Balin's smile. :)
Can't you just see it? I love that the movie has given all of them at least some sense of personality...and Balin's is very subtle and very nice.
You know, there are lots of stories out there where Bilbo settles into Erebor just fine and I never find it impossible to imagine! It's funny, it's just my personal version of him that can't quite do it, somehow...
(And Thorin is a total angst-bunny, he's lovely at it. *grin*)
