I was so sad that it was ending! But of course there will be a sequel, how could I be so silly? It's so beautiful, a master work! Great job!

What a beautiful ending to a beautiful and wonderful story. Thank you for sharing these journeys with us -- both across Middle-earth, and into the hearts of our beloved Dwarves and hobbit.

His hands were trembling, and Bilbo reached up to catch them in his own.

"I have no such treasure to give you," he said. "But you know what it is I leave with you."

"I could ask for no greater treasure," said Thorin, and drew him close.

*happy sigh*

I don't know which journey I've enjoyed more, to be honest! Middle Earth and the emotional landscape of the heart are both such wonderful territory to cover...

Thank you so much for all your comments and support, you always make me beam happily! *beams more*

*sigh* That was a wonderful ending.

"Do not speak to me of this again," he said in a whisper. "For my own sake."

Oh, Thorin. My heart went out to him when he said this. His sister really knows him well and I'm glad that his family will be there to support him, while he and Bilbo won't be together.

Oh, Thorin. My heart went out to him when he said this.

Oh man. My slow realization that this is a version of Thorin who could actually be happy in the Shire--but can't, because he has a thriving community to care for (the very reason he's emotionally free to be able to love the Shire) is kind of killing me. I'm so glad that comes across here!

Last chapter, last chapter..! *sobs*

picking up a pair of paisley-patterned socks

Paisley-patterned socks! :D

"It looks like we'll be too busy. Uncle says he relies on our help so much lately." He tried to sound regretful, but his delight shone through his words and he bounced on the balls of his feet, the braids in his beard quivering with his smile.

Awwww, Fili! *hearts him*

"Thank you for sharing the road with me, my friends. You are fine warriors and better princes, and the very best of comrades."

*wibbles a lot*

Kíli's lower lip was trembling and he rubbed his sleeve across his face. "Mother says it's not shameful to weep at partings," he muttered.

"Of course it's not," said Bilbo, and pulled them both close for a long embrace.

*sobs with them*

"But I can't leave behind the silver salt and pepper shakers Dori gave me, or the crystal buttons from Mîn. And it would be rude to not take the bronze shield from Gimli, although I can't imagine when I'd need a shield! And oh dear, I certainly can't leave this," he said, ( ... )

Can't you just see them? Bilbo is so proud of them, the darling...

Ahhh, I just love all the Dwarves loading Bilbo up with gifts, as if he can't go into Erebor properly without someone giving him something...

They seem a very gift-based culture in some ways! Any culture so focused on things would see giving them as the ultimate sign of esteem...

And oh, BALIN and...! (FEELS)

Balin! For some reason I've always loved the touch that Balin is the only dwarf to go visit him, so I kind of feel like he liked the Shire a lot...

Ahhhh, and that with the Aule/Yavanna theme too! *flails again*

Ahhhhhaha, you noticed that comparison! I couldn't resist it!

Oh, I love that Bilbo is still going to inevitably going to have his reputation for being improbably rich, because he's been showered with so many delightful presents :3

And Kili and Fili's adorable little "IT'S NOT LIKE WE'LL MISS YOU TOO OR ANYTHING" wibbling.

POOR THORIN. BILBO LEAVING HIS HEART BEHIND. OH MY GODS MY FEELINGS.

The ending lapse into Tolkienese = flawless. I can't WAIT for the next. This isn't an end, this is only the beginning, a delightful beginning that I can't wait to continue. *bounces with joy*

Yes! That cracked me up to realize, that he's STILL going to manage to be that odd wealthy Baggins, just for rather different reasons...

I'm so glad you thought the end and the lapsing into formal language worked! I would never dream of trying it for long, but I love the rhythm of his language so much I can't resist it now and then. I'm thinking about having some "Appendices" that use that very formal fairy-tale/history language to fill in some details of the history of some of the Clarity of Purpose characters...

(I feel like I should take a break, but I am loving this series so much! The gap is just to let me have a chunk of it finished and waiting before I start...)

Hey, write where your happiness is! And if its this series, it's this series.

*eagerly awaits ALL the appendicies!*
