Beautiful. Absolutely, shatteringly beautiful. I went from squeeing over my precious baby Gimli, to heartbroken at Thorin's loss, and then the OTP feelsplosion (both Thorin/Bilbo and Yavanna/Aule!) - this chapter has everything.

I adored Gimli's reactions to the biscuits, Thror's interactions with Thorin and Bilbo while sound of mind, Bilbo's hobbitishness in reaction to the stimuli of Erebor and Dale (on oh my heart he tried to grow violas there, ow), and OH THE HUSBAND ARGUMENT. I'm hoping for a wedding now, to appease Bilbo's traditional inclinations :3

AND THE KISS. THANK YOU FOR THE KISS. A subtle, small thing, as it should be with the two of them, but so vital.

so much happiness <3

Baby Gimli! It's so weird to re-watch the movies and remember how relatively young he is even there...

Yavanna/Aule! Now I want to write a bunch of extra stories about them, because they're such an interesting couple, fractious and loving and wonderful...

And it was so much fun to write an unfallen Dale! They don't know how lucky they are...

Yay for kisses! *grin*

Oh, wow, that whole chapter was so beautiful. Wooing Gimli with butterscotch cookies and introducing Bilbo as husband and all the wonderful history. The mood is so perfect and touching and that ending. *sigh*

It's been such fun to write a little in an unfallen Erebor and Dale, and give Thror a bit of happy time with his grandchildren! I'm so glad you enjoyed it too... Thank you for letting me know!

Oh my... I was like: “YAY a new update”! And then - “OMG, only one chapter left… NOOOOO!”

"We told him that, but he didn't seem to believe us," said Fíli. "I mean, not that you're ordinary ordinary at all, but you're just--Bilbo, you know?"
This is cute. :)

"We were telling Gimli about your butterscotch biscuits," he said, pronouncing the words like they were foreign. "When we told him that you brought some, he wanted to see if they were as good as we claimed."
:lol

Gimli took a bite of his biscuit and his grumbling protests trailed off as his eyes grew wide. "This is--!" He couldn't finish the sentence, but took another bite, sighing with happiness.
:DD
“Thrór came close and put his hands on Thorin's shoulders, looking deeply into his eyes. "Oh, child," he said after a moment. "I am sorry ( ... )

But I'm working on a sequel, I promise! *bounces*

I felt so sad for Thorin, writing this chapter--his grandfather, and realizing that Bilbo is going to leave, and knowing that they won't be reunited after death...it's been hard on him!

And Bilbo reminding Thorin that things could be worse in another world seemed so like Bilbo--and of course so true, poor dears. :(

Thank you so much for the lovely comment and for brightening my day!

This chapter is a masterpiece. I kept highlighting my favorite passages, but ended up with too many to list. Thrór's conversation with Thorin is perfect, as is the meeting with Bard. But the gentleness and wisdom of that ending... this is a Valar-touched love, indeed.

Oh, thank you so much! *blushes* I am such a sucker for love that survives time and distance, but oh dear, it can be sad to write it sometimes... I'm very glad you liked it!
