"The only conclusion is someone wants the Line of Durin dead. Someone with a great deal of power and influence, someone--"

Oh, twists and turns and family drama! Very exciting! Now I can't wait to find out how this will end. *sigh*

You write a wonderfully snarky Thranduil, too. ;)

Family drama! I don't usually write large families of blood relations, so it's kind of interesting to have all these siblings and parents running around...

Thranduil was funnnn. I like the idea of him in a world where they mostly get along with Erebor...

OH NO. What a cliffhanger to end on! Poor, poor Thorin and family.

Love that you kept Kili's crush on Tauriel! *pats him*

And from her talk of a tiny thing in the woods, I sense Gollum.

Love that you kept Kili's crush on Tauriel! *pats him*

*grin* I was wondering if they would have met and realized yes, but she'd probably always remember him as "that cute little dwarf boy" in this world, lol.

And yesss, sneaky sneaky Gollum is looking for Erebor, he is. That's the last we'll see of him in this part, though! :)

DUNH DUNH DUUUUNNNHH!!

Loved your Thranduil and how carefully you walked the line between "noble" and "douchebag." <3333

Also, bonus points for using the word "doughty!"

I confess to loving the heck out of the word "doughty," lol. It's so VERY Tolkienesque... Also, eee, thank you for the Thranduil compliment! It's a fine, fine line to walk...

He'd never thought of the trees of the Shire as "friendly" before, but found himself missing the crooked little apple tree in his backyard with a fierce longing.

That's a lovely detail.

Aw, thank you! We had a little apple tree near our house growing up, so they feel like home to me...

"Yes, thank you, I do believe I've got that one now," said Bilbo.

Heh! *pets Bilbo*

"She thought she was getting us away," Kíli confided to Bilbo in a noisy whisper. "But let's face it, Mother is much more clever than either of us or Uncle Frerin, and thus more of a threat." They nodded solemnly in unison.

Oh, those two! *hearts them*

"I would remind you that speaking ill of the Heir can be considered high treason," Thorin observed darkly, appearing behind him. "Do not doubt my judgment."

"Wouldn't dream of it," chirped Kíli.

Oh, all of them...! *glomps them* Also, Kili chirping! :D

Behind him, Bilbo heard Kíli sigh, a sigh broken off as if someone had elbowed him very hard.

*gigglesnorts*

"My scouts have reported seeing a being--smaller than either a dwarf or an elf, and stealthy beyond even our ability to track easily--in the wood. You are certain you have not been entering the wood without our permission?"

Oh, oh!!! *frets* (I loved Dori's support of Bilbo!)

"Elves are not trustworthy," said Dís from her own pony, ( ... )

I have to say, Fili and Kili deciding their mother is a lot smarter then them just made me giggle, they're adorable.

Oh, I find it really interesting just how little Dis trusts the Elves, whereas Thorin is... well, okayish with them?

I know, it's so...weird! I don't think you can study a language for decades without absorbing some understanding of the culture and worldview of the people, even if you don't exactly realize it...

Oh, I'm so glad Bilbo's limited vision of the fight worked for you! I could see it like in a movie, but I wasn't sure I could make it work in a narrative...

There seems to only be three more chapters, alas! It's possible things might slow down for a couple more, but that's all that's left... (until the next arc starts, lol!) I can't believe it! Thank you so much for coming along on this crazy ride... *hugs*
