NO NO NO NO NO

I hope Galadriel can do something for Thorin because I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS DESCENT INTO RING MADNESS. NOPE.

(you described it so beautifully and accurately that I am extensively pained)

What had it been, Thorin wondered, trying to recapture it. Remorse? Pity? It had been...warmer than that, he remembered dimly. A desire to reach out, to connect.

Clearly then, there needs to be more Bilbo Touching. You know, for the sake of experimentation. Much, much more. *waggles eyebrows in Thorin's general direction*

And though the circumstances tore me up to see, Decisive Prince Fili was a treat!

God, me neither! It kind of ripped me up that the second trailer came out just as we started to get to this section, oh Thorin... But he's in such a vulnerable place right now...

Absolutely agreed! *grins*

And yessss, I was so happy when I realized that, as horrible as things are, Fili gets to step up and be the Heir he was meant to be for a while! Go Fili, go!

"Thorin," he said, "Nothing can take hope from you but yourself. And I do not think all hope is lost forever." He looked at each member of the party, his gaze coming to rest last on Bilbo. "It never truly is."

I love those lines. It's so difficult to see Thorin being enspelled by the Ring.

It was hell and a half to write, and doesn't let up for some time (but is not forever!) Gandalf being a quiet force for hope is one of my favorite things about LotR, so I loved having him step up a bit here. Thank you so much!

Someday far in the future, Gandalf would shudder as he told Bilbo the parts of the story that had gone untold, remembering that moment of indecision.

But for you, my dear Bilbo, I might have delivered the greatest weapon of the Enemy directly to his doorstep.

FLAILS.

I totally missed that at first.

GAH! DANGER, WILL ROBINSON! DANGER!

Hehehehe, how much of that was even Thorin speaking I do not precisely know! The Ring was very anxious to get back to its Master...but with Sauron defeated and banished for now, it loses its strength a bit (thank goodness)...

Waahhh oh Thorin! Nooo do not take comfort in the ring, take comfort in warm, hobbity arms instead!! D:

*joins in with you* The Ring is cold and terrible, Thorin! Bilbo is right there! *shoos them toward each other, vainly*

Hoping to have another chapter up quite soon! I've been so busy lately and this is the only series with a nice backlog of chapters I can dip into. *grin*

Limping slightly, he went to Fíli and Kíli and handed each of them a drop. They took them from him wordlessly, gently, as if he were offering them a great gift. Balin and Dwalin silently picked out a drop as well, and Gandalf even murmured his thanks as he extricated a piece of sweet from the package.
Iliked it. Bilbo always has something in his pack to make feel them better. It’s amazing!

"Here," Bilbo said last to Thorin. "Won't you have one? Please?"
Thorin's eyes went from his face to the package in his hand, the glittering glassy fragments there. He shook his head, a tiny motion, and turned to the wall.
Oh… *pets them both*

"I care not," said Thorin without looking at him. "All roads lead nowhere to me now."
This doesn’t sond good at all

--Enough," said a clear voice. Everyone turned to see Fíli standing, his legs braced against the ground and his jaw set. "If Uncle Thorin will not make a decision, then someone must. And I say we should go to Lothlórien, as Gandalf suggests.
WOW! Well said Fíli!

Fíli looked at his uncle. " ( ... )

Yes, yes he does! Although he's just down to the viola tea now! He'll need a very good reason to dip into that...

WOW! Well said Fíli!

Fili stepping up and taking charge was about the only thing that was a pleasure to write about this chapter!

He sounds so desperate and defeated...

I know, and it was SO hard to write, poor Thorin...

I'm glad Bilbo is there for Thorin! (Well, everyone is, but Bilbo is especially good for him right now, since he doesn't remind him of his failure so much...) I'm really hoping to have more soon if I can just get caught up a bit! *grin*
