This is truly a beautiful story, and very moving. What a marvelous gap filler.

Thank you so much! I'm really enjoying writing vignettes that fill in the spaces--or I guess, potential spaces? Because I suspect Jackson still has a few surprises up his sleeve (none that will save Thorin though, I fear...)

*curls up in the corner with you* I'm a total mess with these two and this fandom--I start writing and get all weepy and "I JUST WANT TO WRITE SOMETHING WORTHY OF THEM" and it's an emotional disaster.... (I wish I were kidding!) But I admit I'm happy to share the pain a bit! Thank you for shouldering that burden with me!

Oh, Jen, this was... was...!!! *flails*

At times they seemed to think he could do no wrong, and that with Mr. Baggins' help they would somehow simply waltz into Erebor and and slay the dragon before breakfast some morning.

Their faith in Mr. Baggins was rather touching; Bilbo just wished he shared it.

Aww. *pets Bilbo*

"Does everyone think I'm too proud to spend some time watching over an ailing comrade?"

"Well--"

Thorin's eyes narrowed. "Begone, and take your shrill flute with you," he growled.

Ahhh, Thorin...

"Yes sir, Mr. Thorin sir!" stammered poor Ori, gathering his things up with a great racket and bolting out the door.

ORI!!! *wibbles* (I watched FotR yesterday and... *sniffles* ORI!!!!)

Thorin glowered down at him. "I am no stranger to making music," he said, "But I do not have my instrument with me."

*sighs* I would have loved to have seen Thorin with his harp...

"Get some rest," he said. "And let me know if you have need of anything. Despite what some in our party may think, I am not so high and mighty I cannot ( ... )

Between us, we're pretty much going to just cry nonstop over Balin, aren't we? That line you picked out about "one old dwarf with a broken heart" just killed me, because Balin just doesn't have any real reason to go on now...AND WE KNOW WHAT REASON HE EVENTUALLY FINDS OH GOD.

ORI!!! *wibbles* (I watched FotR yesterday and... *sniffles* ORI!!!!)

Poor Ori! I feel bad, but he always steps up to be the character that gets glared at by Thorin--because he's so young and so very polite, the poor little guy. *sniffles*

*sighs* I would have loved to have seen Thorin with his harp...

Oh, you know I never would have brought it up if it weren't going to get a story of its own, muahaha. You just know Thorin now is all "MUST...FIND...HARP ( ... )

The thing that really got me was that he was leaning against Balin's tomb, god! *whimpers*
