--Went out to dinner with damos and a couple of his cousins recently, and his cousins ordered whitebait pizza for all of us. That would be pizza with teeny tiny little fishies on it!

OK, that picture makes me incredibly happy that, as awesome as I'm sure it is in other ways, I do not live in Japan.

I hope my appetite recovers someday.

Maru is aghast! :) Though I bet he'd like whitebait pizza just fine...

I don't know what it is, I've eaten a lot of awesome and awful things here (grasshoppers!) but those little white fish crop up all over in salads and such and I cannot seem to get my head around them.

Actually, eating whole fish doesn't bug me so much anymore; pan-fried smelts are a wonderful, delicious thing. Just grab the whole thing and ~CRUNCHCRUNCHCRUNCH~! <3

Now I have the crack-idea that by night, Bruce is dark, serious "I AM THE NIGHT!" Batman, and by day he's the wise-cracking wallcrawler. Split personalities!

I can't quite figure out what my mental block is on whole fish! It's got to be the eyes...anything that looks back at me while I eat it is a challenge for me, somehow...

OMG, that is the best idea ever, lol. No time to sleep! Must throw batarangs/sling webs! And their personalities are such polar opposites that it would be sheer hilarity...

LOL! Japan has so many examples of cheerful anthropomorphized food, and it constantly appalls and amuses me. We went to a fried pork cutlet restaurant that had pictures of Babe on the walls. Just...what? No! "Hi, you are now eating fried slices of this adorable little animal! Enjoy!"

I actually managed to eat a whole fried fish this very week...you're right, breaking off the head (and then turning it discreetly to the wall) is the key. This particular fish had been slow-grilled for 90 minutes to render all of it edible--guts, fins, bones, all of it, and it was surprisingly tasty! Some of my co-workers ate the head as well, but that was a bridge too far for me.

WOW, you are so brave! I’m afraid nothing in the world could make me eat it. My husband on the other hand would be thrilled. He loves such things. :D

OMG, Batman and Spiderman? I can’t remember I’ve ever seen such kind of pairing before (anyway - there are still my favorite colors in that logo :)).

WOW, you are so brave! I’m afraid nothing in the world could make me eat it.

If it had come later in the meal, I would have said I was full, but it was the first thing, so...there was no way around it! And honestly, if I hadn't SEEN the little fishies, I don't know if I would have known they were there, it was mostly just a general sort of fish taste. Just the look of it--!

I kind of love the idea of Bruce Wayne as Spiderman now! :) SLIGHTLY different personalities...

The eyesssssss. Food with eyes! I can't handle it! I almost leaned over to damos as he was sprinkling Tabasco on the pizza and said in a little squeaky voice, "Pepper sauce in our eyes! Why!? Why do you torment us so?"

Bruce Wayne: Spiderman! Working from the cave under his villa! :D (Well, sure! There are spiders in caves too, right?)

The Batman card is a thing of beauty and a joy forever! :)

I really enjoy meta! I'm wishing I could come up with some right now, but on the plus side I'm going to have a blast reading and commenting on some of them, I think.
