Yuletide Recs: In Before the Reveal!

Dec 30, 2010 10:30

Wow, what a Yuletide. When my prompts showed up quite late on the pinch hit list, I despaired, because they were obscure and convoluted. However, I ended up getting two absolutely beautiful stories, and from the two prompts that I thought I had the least chance of seeing, so I am deliriously happy. If you happen to know the two fandoms, please ( Read more... )

*short circuits at the sight of a fic author intelligent enough to reference ANDREAS FREAKIN' CAPELLANUS*

Quite a lot of these look very awesome; I'll read when my brain is no longer broken.

It's a very nice fic, just angsty enough (no choice considering the canon), and yeah I loves me a literate author, lol. The rest are great too! It was a super-fun Yuletide!

Happy New Year to you too! *hugs you* I have to admit, the lack of Babylon 5 this Yuletide was a bit of a disappointment at first (well, last year was my first time participating, so I guess I got hopelessly spoiled on B5 then :) ) but the wealth of great fics is more than making up for that. I still miss the shared squee over B5, though. Hmm... maybe that means I should just start writing Londo/G'Kar again? *ponders*

I know, the Londo/G'Kar dearth is very sad! But I saw you got an whopping humongous Twin Peaks fic, that's fantastic! There was so much that made me happy to read out there, all sorts of little bright points that made my holiday...plus the ones I wrote got a good reception too, so it's happiness all around for me! :)

Fandom: Dark Is Rising Sequence - Susan Cooper

Oh my GOD. Literally only TWO days ago, I stumbled across Cooper's The Grey King. I'd never even heard of the Dark Is Rising Sequence before Tuesday. I read the entire book in a night and was like: "Yeah, Bran and Will are totally gay for each other. Tehe!" I honestly never expected to find fanfic for Cooper's books, let alone good fanfic, let alone good Will/Bran fanfic, BUT OMG YOU ARE A GODDESS. I literally did a double take when I read that you'd recommended one. I honestly can't believe I'm seeing this. You've made my week! EEEE! *goes to read*

You must hit the AO3 archive then, because every Yuletide brings a spate of wonderful DiR stories! It's a deeply beloved series, and there's lots and lots of Will/Bran (and a fair amount of Will/Jane on the het side, although I always kind of shipped Bran/Jane as a pre-slash kid). Have you finished the series yet? I don't want to spoil you too much... the idea of being new to the series is such a thrill, lol! What I wouldn't give to be able to re-read them afresh...

I've only read The Grey King so far. My New Years resolution is to go to the library and read the entire series, LOL.

I can't believe I've lived 24 years and have never heard of DiR. Where have I been?!?! LOL

I feel this way about so many fandoms in my life. I love starting a new series!

Thanks for the links! Rosencrantz and Guildenstern especially look awesome.

R&G is another one of those fandoms that one almost never sees outside Yuletide, but there's always something tasty and good around this time of year. :)
