She was INCREDIBLY nice and if in the future there's an opportunity, I'd want her to represent me. I'm going to write her back and thank her for her pleasant and prompt reply, and I might see if she can give me any advice. Still, she said the pages didn't 'grab' her the way she expected, so that might be something more visceral than I can immediately fix. But I'll still try.
Here's the amazing thing: I asked the lady at the front where it was, and she said it was way in the back, by the coolers. Then she said that a guy had come in to purchase 40 CASES of it, and basically bought their whole stock. They reordered another shipment of 30 cases, and immediately some other guy came in and bought 10 cases.
I tell you this because I think it's starting to become one of those really popular beers, especailly since it's seasonal. I'm pretty sure the people I mentioned bought all those as stock for a restaurant or something, but still. If you see some, get it while you can!
It's all totally true, and a matter of perspective. I'm not trying to write the next blockbuster and that's what a lot of agents look for most of all, or so I've read. Yes they want someone who's reliable and can take criticism, but they also want to read something that they haven't seen forty billion times before.
I'm trying to plug along with the same optimism as before, and I'm not exactly rewriting the whole book based on one person's five-page scan--it's all a learning process.
(And your list doesn't surprise me--I'm FAMOUS for putting down a book and never finishing it, but I realized I was doing it and probably missing out on things so I tried to break myself of the habit. I don't think everyone needs to do that though, just read what interests you)

(You can't really get soft pretzels in the UK, only the crunchy kind, which aren't nearly as nice and always taste a bit stale and bland)

My god, why? This has me thinking I ought to pack up and head over so I can corner the market!
