I read popfiend's journal and that entry DEFINITELY caught my eye the other day. I've started making a list of books that I thought might have similarities to mine and am going to start tracking down their publishers' addresses to send query letters to.
As a further suggestion, most authors who have websites will list how to contact their agent on their site somewhere. Having an agent makes getting published MUCH easier - witness, Marianne.
This is true. But she was quoted in the NY Times and had an enormous online presence already. A lot of what I'm reading (which is of course only someone's opinion, but still) says that agents won't represent someone until they're already published. I'd like to get an agent first, but it seems like getting one before you get published isn't something a nobody like me can aim for.
