Seems like I'm not the only one with Westerns on the Brain; The Onion's AV Club did a feature on 17 Grim Westerns.

I've seen a few on the list, and I rewatched Unforgiven Saturday night. If that somehow doesn't fit the mould of a grim western, I have no idea what does. A slow dissection of the Western Genre--without aneasthetic--by one of it's ( Read more... )

Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid, from that 17 grim westerns list, is a movie I've wanted to see for years. For some reason I manage it miss it every time it's on.

That was one I hadn't heard of: and isn't the one by Altman that you told me about on the list?

Yes, I was talking about McCabe and Mrs Miller a while back. I highly recommend it.

Yeah, the name stuck with me because it seemed kind of --incongruous? I mean as the other you wouldn't give him a name that's overly obvious like Lt. Jeremiah Killington-Bloodfiend, you'd give him a name that's kind of plain like 'John Williams' or something. Something about 'Munny' stuck with me because it sort of didn't fit, it's the only reason I remembered it. Then when I was reading the Wiki on Unforgiven the other day I was like 'Wait, that's the Saint's real name.'

And I think the name is presented in such a way that it also couldn't be William Munny, but I just thought that was an interesting parallel.

I've heard of both those titles but not yet seen. I think we have Proposition, but it seemed very 'intense' and I decided to wait for the right mood to be upon me before I see it.

Thanks!
