I never had a Gamecube, although you're totally right about similiar gameplay. I played a Pikmin demo somewhere and thought it was cute, but just didn't think it was enough to get a system for.
Yeah, Bioshock is definitely in the future for us. And it's only next Tuesday! We've already established that none of the Toys R Us in Orlando are in the 'breaking the street date' posse. Which is a shame, because the demo brought tears of joy to our eyes with its beauty.
But honestly, I am more in love with the idea of commanding a troupe of goblins, and having them fawn on me with treasure and power-ups. There's just something so therapeutic about that idea!
Go snag Dungeon Seige from your local used-games dealer; similar idea, more of an RTS approach (build your castle/fortress, fight off invading heroes, gleefully disembowel them)
The PC game that I've heard it most often compared to is Black and White, because of the 'choose your outcome' aspect. If you save the villagers' food and give it to them you're good, but you can also choose to use it yourself to feed your minions, that kind of thing.
The castle-building in this is more a fun side-game than anything that serves a purpose, sort of like the house-decorating feature in Fable.
I really don't care for PC gaming anyway, I just can't play a game on a computer if it's something involved. And I used to all the time: Myst, Riven, Diablo 2. Nowadays I MUST be able to sit on the floor of the living room and play. It's something to do with the 'You can't sit there and play video games all day and hog the TV dammit' attitude of my parents.

Overlord and Bioshock are my next two game purchases once my replacement 360 shows up.

And a gamestop down the road. I was thinking that Pikmin might be compatible but I wasn't sure. Thanks!
