we should always be open to the "accidental" in art. of course, a double exposure is a sort of deliberate accident, but still an accident in that you can't totally control the outcome. in this case, the outcome was very good. it's a great piece of photographic mystery.
Thank you! You're so right about not being able to control the outcome. I tend to plan my double exposures fairly carefully, but even so I'm always surprised at how they turn out. In this case I was worried about the combination of a dully lit background and a brightly lit subject, but it worked out very well -- I'll definitely try that again! Furthermore, I'm delighted with the way the sculpture fits into the background -- the way its head ended up precisely between two branches. That's the kind of detail you can't plan. I got very lucky there.
If only the rest of the film were as intriguing...
Freddy Krueger! Of course. Thank you for solving that mystery. The sculpture did remind me of someone when I took the picture, but I couldn't think of whom. Now I know. Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street, indeed...
Thanks! Yes, the placement worked out really well here. I'd welcome a few more of these. It'll be interesting to see what comes of my latest double-exposure experiment...
