The end is nigh

Nearly three months ago I arrived in Singapore, exhausted from several weeks' hard work but looking forward to meeting both old and new friends and visiting beautiful places in Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Now I'm back in Singapore, equally exhausted as on my first arrival here (if for entirely different reasons), and similarly excited about ( Read more... )

Someday, Elaine, you should write a book about all your travels. :)

Bon voyage!

Thanks, Minnie. I certainly have enough material for a few short stories, and if by some odd stroke of fortune I ever reach the kind of fame that requires a biography or an autobiography, my travels will definitely make for a few juicy chapters, but an actual book? Nah. I'm far too unadventurous for that. I need to get off the beaten track more often...

Love the icon. :-)

I'm so sorry I missed you, S! I meant to contact you, but as I said, I only had two days in Singapore, and I was too tired to see anyone but the friends I was staying with. I even cancelled my planned visit to Kinokuniya because I couldn't be bothered to go into town on my second day. That says it all, really..

I hope we'll have a chance to meet on my next visit to Singapore, whenever that may be. Now that I know what the place has to offer me, I'll definitely be back -- sooner rather than later if I have my way. Not sure how I'll manage it financially, but I'll think of something...

That's fine. Not visiting kinokuniya; you must've been really tired.

Definitely :)

By the way, I was nearly coerced into trying vegemite when I was younger! But never did.

Yeah, go on, laugh at me... If you knew how many books I didn't buy in Australia because (a) I knew I could get them cheaper at Kinokuniya Singapore and (b) I didn't want to carry them with me all the time, you'd know just how big of a deal my not-visiting Kinokuniya was. Honestly. Ten days onwards I'm still amazed at myself.

Actually, Vegemite isn't too bad. I was expecting it to be truly horrible, but actually found it to be quite edible. An acquired taste, to be sure, but by no means the attack on the palate I was dreading.

I feel like you should have a t-shirt with all the dates and places you went on the back like you can get for rock bands tours!

Anyway, glad you had fun!

I totally should have had one of those shirts made in Australia. It would have been the perfect goodbye gift to myself. I guess I could cheat and have one made in Holland, but it wouldn't be quite the same, would it? :-)

To be honest, so had I. I'd also forgotten I had a bank balance. I have a feeling that will be harder to get re-adjusted to.

Thanks, O. I'm not sure how much travelling I'll get done in the next two years (this trip really has depleted my funds in the most alarming way!), but I daresay I'll get back into the habit eventually. In the meantime, I'll just have to inspire you with photos...

For what it's worth, you're inspiring me to go back to Paris. I've seen far too little of that place!
