Postcards from ancient Egypt

Elaine?

Yes?

Do you ever vary the composition of your shots?

Why, yes, I think I do. Why do you ask?

If you don't mind my saying so, it doesn't really look that way.

What do you mean? You think I always arrange my subject matter the exact same way?

Well, if you'll be so good as to have a look at today's entry... All those subject-on-the- ( Read more... )

Thank you! Timelessness is very much the quality I'm trying to convey, so I'm glad to hear I seem to be succeeding... :-)

Heh. So I'm not the only one suffering from a mild, shall we say, photographic kink? That's good to know. Very reassuring. Cheers. :-)

(By the way, I look forward to your pics of "The Bridge". Yeah, the ones that you nearly got yourself run over for. The things we do for art, indeed...)

Hehe, my pleasure to reassure you! :D

I got a new bike back in October, as you're probably aware. It's actually a Dutch-style one, with the big, curved handlebars. It makes it very difficult to ride with one hand while the other clasping a camera, so I'm my own worse enemy really. I'm really looking forward to the results though, even if they are all wonkey. It was such a lovely spring day today I couldn't resist!

Is your bike properly balanced? Because on a good bike, you should be able to ride for miles without ever having to touch the handlebars. I agree that's probably not such a good idea in Cambridge, what with thousands of careless tourists simply waiting to be knocked over, but still, it should be entirely possible to ride with one hand while the other is holding a camera. Just as long as you're not actually trying to take pictures while riding.

I'm enjoying hearing about your photographer-on-a-bike adventures, as I'm going on a cycling holiday myself next month, very much with the intention of shooting lots of pictures. So I'm probably going to get a bit of exercise in the field myself. Hopefully both myself and the camera will survive the experience...

You seem to get on well with your internal dialog. I'm afriad I'm not speaking with mine at the moment. He's so damn bitter and sarcastic. Who can stand a constant assault of that nonsense?

Nice pictures, even if they're all right, it's all right.

My inner critic is fairly bearable at the moment, but we've had a few conversations over the years which I won't post here as they would cause acute suicidal tendencies in whoever read them. As for you not speaking with yours at the moment, that's probably a good idea, from the sound of it. Oh, yes.

Thanks for the kind words! :-)

Don't listen to your inner monologue!

Similar composition or not, I love this series. More please!
