Moroccan snapshots, part 1

Jan 17, 2006 11:11

I'm going to make a start on the Morocco photos -- what's left of them, anyway. This week I'm going to post some shots from the two films which survived the Great Holiday Photo Disaster of 2005. Bear in mind they're just snapshots, taken with a mediocre point-and-shoot camera. As such, some of them have considerable shortcomings, such as the heavy ( Read more... )

Isn't it just? I took heaps of photos of donkeys, but I think this is the only one which came out. It was probably the best of the lot, though, so for once I'm not going to bemoan my lot. :-)

Hell, yes. And the baddest.

Charming icon, by the way. Very c***.

Bear in mind that a pol-filter quite probably would have removed the lively sparkles of light in the lake picture. Or were these reflections unwanted?

By the way, I sympathize with this donkey, too! Well, I sympathize with all donkeys! Must have done so ever since I saw Robert Bresson's "Au hasard, Balthazar!" as a child. A true classic.

Yes, but there would have been different gradations of sparkle removal, wouldn't there? I really played around with the polariser, opening it a little bit, a bit more, yet a bit more, etc. Some of the effects looked very good as I was taking the photos. Of course, the final result might have been completely different, but as I said, it looked good as I was doing it. I also loved the way the colours of the sky and the water changed. As far as that's concerned, water and polarisers are a nice combination, I think.

I haven't seen Au hasard, Balthazar, but if it features pitiable donkeys, I should probably give it a miss. I saw enough pitiable donkeys in Morocco to last me a lifetime. :-)

Aw, thank you, Scott. I'm glad to hear it. But just imagine what the Olympus-shot photos would have looked like, if someone (read: I) hadn't screwed them up...

Those are beautiful photos. You know, the first and last ones could easily sell as postcards.
I can't wait to travel to a place like that :)

Thank you! I'm glad you like them.

If you ever want to go to Morocco, give me a shout, and I may go with you. I've just decided that I do in fact want to go back to the country at some point, to get the photos right. Damn it. :-)
