Germany, 2005: final pictures

Nov 11, 2005 10:58

Have I mentioned lately that I have a light-in-the-dark fetish?

Well, I have.

(Or should that be, "I do"? I'm never quite sure. Linguistic advice requested.)

Have a wonderful trip to Morocco, Elaine!

Yeah, the Bahnhofsvorplatz didn't strike me as particularly photogenic...

Anyhow, cheers. I'm sure I'll have a great time. Morocco is so nice and sunny at this time of year...

Kölle alaaf back at you! Even though you're nowhere near Köln, as far as I know. :-)

No, I'm not. And to be quite honest, I never was a big Karneval fan when I lived in the Rhineland. Still, sitting here in dull, grey Copenhagen where noone even knows or cares about what's going on at home right now makes me feel a bit homesick. Sigh.

So, to cheer myself up and challenge your linguistic skills a little bit, why don't I sing you the Karneval anthem of my home town :-)

I think I know how you feel. I always got a bit nostalgic on Koninginnedag when I was living in Taiwan and England, even though I tend to avoid the Koninginnedag festivities when I'm at home. It's a very strange kind of homesickness. Nothing happy thoughts and a nice pint in a place where they don't automatically refill your glass if you don't put something on it won't cure, though. :-)

(I'll refrain from quoting Pippin at this point.)

As for the Karneval anthem, I understand everything but schunkeln. What does that mean?

See, that's what I thought. "I do" does sound better. However, I seem to remember being taught that when the verb in question is "to have", the repeated verb (what do you linguists call it?) must also be "to have". Most people seem to say "do", regardless of the verb that precedes it, but I was taught that for "have", it should be "have". It's most confusing.

Food-wise, I'd rather be flying to Taiwan than to Morocco tomorrow. I like tagine well enough, but I'm pretty certain I'll be fed up with it before the week is over. That said, I'm looking forward to the fruit and the fruit juices. Yum.

It should technically be, "Well, I do have one", which can be satisfactorily shaved down to "Well, I do."

"Well, I have" in this instance could be mistaken to refer to your first sentence and imply that you have told us about the light/dark fetish.

I love the criss-crossed interplay of the light patterns on the curtains.

Hmmm. Yes.

I've decided I'm going to take your word (and alternemo's) for it. I'm still not entirely convinced, but if everybody says, "I do," which certainly seems to be the case, I can't go very wrong in saying it, too, can I? :-)

I fell completely in love with the bright bits of light on the curtains. With hindsight, I think I should have stepped back a bit more to increase my distance from the curtains and show a bit more of the surrounding darkness, but even from this close, I like the photos a lot. I'm glad you seem to like them, too. :-)

Thank you! I'm glad you like my little curtain pics. I was quite excited to wake up to that gorgeous play of light and shadows last summer...

Morocco is going to be amazing! I've been wanting to go there for years, and I'm thrilled to be finally going. I'm really looking forward to it. I just hope my pictures will do the country justice. By all accounts it's an uncommonly photogenic place.

Chances of my spending a lot of time on the coast are slim, but all the same I'll wave back in your general direction at some point. How far is Fuerteventura from Morocco, anyway? :-)

i wanted to move to melilla or ceuta to be able to make short trips into morocco. even before i had a camera.

i'm not sure about the exact distance from fuerteventura, but it is the island closest to mainland africa. but it is a bit more southwards, in front of the sahara desert. (people come here in little boats!)
btw: we spaniards have no idea of were exactly the canary islands are.
indeed.
(because we are used to see them placed in a corner of the mediterranean sea on the maps).

your pictures are always spectacular!

i liked a lot those here before i knew they were yours. it happens quite often.

good luck in your trip. *dances around the room* i'm happy and excited about it too, because i know that you'll bring a lot of jewels and treasures from there. *hugs*

Really? So why didn't you? Why did you go to Fuerteventura instead? And since I'm asking strange (and somewhat personal) questions, anyway (I hope you don't mind!), what's in Ceuta and Melilla anyway, other than very large fences intended to keep the Africans out? Is there anything in those places which merits moving there, other than their close proximity to Morocco?

Heh. Well, as long as you don't actually start believing the Canary Islands are in the Mediterranean, you'll be fine. :-)

Hardly. But thanks, anyway. :-)

Aw...
