Melatenfriedhof (part 16)

Nov 09, 2005 11:20

These are the last of my Melaten colour photos. Like the previous batch, they're largely unspectacular, but I found them nice enough to include in the series.

I still have a handful of black-and-whites coming up later today, and then it's Schluß with the Melaten photos. Or is it Schluss these days, sabster?

that looks like a really cool cemetery to shoot in.

It's a photographer's heaven. The only drawback is that it's full of very tall trees which render many of the older graves very dark. I was there on two lovely sunny days, but had to pass up on several potentially great photos because the graves in question were completely overshadowed by the trees. By the time the light had changed enough for me to give those graves another go, I couldn't find them any more because the cemetery is just so bloody big and confusingly laid out!

I love the second one!
I like visiting cemeteries in other cities... nobody knows me there. Then I haven´t to worry about someone I know seeing me taking pictures ;)

The second one is my favourite of the bunch, as well. I did a black-and-white version of it a while ago, but I think I prefer the colour version.

So, do you think it's weird/embarrassing to take pictures at cemeteries, or is it just that you don't want to offend people by taking photos of their loved ones' graves? I do generally refrain from taking pictures when I see people near a grave, but I don't think there's anything odd about taking pictures of funereal art per se. I see cemeteries as a kind of open-air museum. The art is there, and the atmosphere can be really beautiful, so you might as well take advantage of it. Just as long as you show some respect for the dead and don't trample on their graves. :-)

Are there any particularly good cemeteries in Bavaria? I should imagine there must be a few...

I don´t want to offend people. That´s it. And if I offend somebody in another city, I won´t see them again.
The most beautiful cemetery in Bavaria... I think it was the one on the island "Frauendorf" /Chiemsee. There was an angel who cried... but I think I like it so much only because I love this angel ;) This cemetery is tiny... but this angel ;)
I really love little cemeteries, you don´t think you find something special, but then you look around and then you find something really special.

I think you are underrating the second photograph. I think that might be one of my favorites from this series.

As I said to quippini, I quite like the second one, as well. That one is good. The others, though... They're nice, but nothing special. I've included them for the sake of completeness, but they'll never make it into my portfolio, should I ever decide I need one. :-)

Anyhow, thanks!
