My order of preference is: 2, 3, 4, 1 In all, I could definitely do without the shadow. It doesn't seem to be enhancing your composition any. If it was a more defined shadow I might feel differently. But then, without the shadow, I'd crop out a small portion of the negative space to the left. The grain definitely works for me.
Woo hoo! An actual critical response! Thanks so much, Bella. I was just saying to a friend that most of my LJ friends were being far too polite and that I could really do with some constructive criticism, and now I'm getting it! Much appreciated

Heh. Yes, indeed. :-) I've added you back because I really like reading your Taiwanese adventures. I used to teach English in Taiwan myself, so I understand the life you're describing all too well. Good luck with the typhoons, and have some cong1you2bing3 and ning2meng2 lü4cha2 for me!
Yeah, I used to like typhoon days, too, both because of the days off school and because I enjoyed seeing all the flying debris. For some possibly sick reason I always got a massive kick out of the flying debris.
Have you experienced any earthquakes since you've been in Taiwan? There were five during my first year there, and one during my second. I missed the really big one, though.
