Thank you! Coming from you, that's a huge compliment.
I've developed a bit of a light-in-the-dark fetish over the past few years, and I think it all began with this photo. I remember looking in on this scene, seeing the way the light fell on the red fabric and the shimmering mother-of-pearl-inlaid shutters and thinking, "Oh my God, I have to take a picture of this." It has sparked off a whole series of light-in-the-dark photos, though none as spectacularly rich as this.
Speaking of "rich" photos, can I just say here that I absolutely loved the cat photo you posted a while ago in your own journal? The details of the eyes were astounding. They made me want to rush to a camera store and get a D100 of my own ASAP. Although I have a feeling I may end up getting a Canon EOS instead, as it's just a tad cheaper and appears to be almost as good. Do you have any experience with the EOS or are you a devoted Nikon user?
I'm devoted to my D100 but I'm not one of those brand snobs either.. to me, it doesn't matter what brand it is, so long as you're happy with the equipment you have and the results you achieve from it. For now it makes sense for me to stay with Nikon because my hubby also has a Nikon and we share lenses. You can't go wrong with the EOS line.. the number of people that I know getting new Canons is growing on an almost daily basis. The 20D is the most common choice right now. I haven't heard a bad thing about it yet. An less expensive choice would be the new 350, also a great camera, from what I've heard. Then again, the Nikon D70 (and new versions) is a great choice as well.
Do I use instant messaging? Nope. I'm looking into it, but I fear it might be a bit too distracting for me. I'm battling a pretty heavy Internet-and-e-mail-and-Skype addiction as it is; if I install an instant messaging programme on top of everything else, I fear I'll never get any work done any more. But I may cave in eventually, so if there's anything you'd particularly like to discuss off LiveJournal, there may still be a glimmer of hope. :-)
I'm glad to hear that you can confirm the favourable reports about the EOS line. The reports I've heard about it have been very good, as well. The "cheap" 350 to which you were referring would be the Digital Rebel, right? I've seen some good photos taken with that. I've heard even better things about the 20D, though, so I guess that's where I'll be heading eventually. I'll keep the D70 and D100 in mind, though. The D70 seems to be getting excellent reviews, and what I've seen of the D100 looks impressive.
At any rate, thanks for sharing your technical know-how with me. Much appreciated. :-)
