Year in Review Meme

And another retrospective meme, this one from lonemagpie:

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?

Hosted a ficathon. Wrote a story in present tense. Made a trans-Pacific phone call. Paid off and destroyed a credit card.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I think I was about 60% successful on my New Year's resolutions, which definitely makes it worth making more for 2006, yes.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

How close is close? I have two new great-nieflings.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

My mother's sister.

5. What countries did you visit?

Only the ones in my brain. I've never been much of a traveler.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?

Earnings.

7. What event from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Rock Star: INXS, because it put me back in touch with a side of myself I thought was closed off forever.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Persuading people to write in the Jarriere Ficathon.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not completing my story for the Jarriere Ficathon on time. Actually, there were probably bigger failures, but that's the one that BUGS me.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Duh.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Darth Tater.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

That would be bibliohippo, though she may be annoyed and embarrassed that I've said so. But of all the people who've ever tried to help me with the house and all my projects, she's the one that's been the most help; and of course, she didn't have to.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Mine. I've turned into an incredible whiner, and one of the things that I most wanted to be in life was tough. Avon needs to come and kick my ass. Better yet, Gregory House does; he's meaner.

14. Where did most of your money go?

To pay off old debt.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Darth Tater. Rock Star INXS. The fanfic100. Paying off a credit card. House, M.D.

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?

Mr. Brightside, Baby One More Time, Everlong, Wish You Were Here, Trees. Though I'll probably forget that it's 2005 they're reminding me of; I'm no good with dates.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

older or wiser? Older.
fatter or thinner? Fatter, or possibly just more bloated.
richer or poorer? Poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Write.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Procrastinate. Complain.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

Fairly quietly for the most part, with a nice family buffet and gift exchange in the middle.

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?

Only with my characters, but that's enough for me.

23. How many one-night stands?

None.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

House, M.D.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Nah. Too much trouble, hating people. Seriously disgusted with a few politicians, though.

26. What was the best book you read?

Off the top of my head, I'd have to say The Curse of Chalion.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Marty Casey.

28. What did you want and get?

A new humongous hard disk.

29. What did you want and not get?

A DVD of all of Marty Casey's Rock Star: INXS performances.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Or at least it will be, when the DVDs come out and I finally get to see it.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I had dinner at Mom and Dad's with WonderGirl and bibliohippo, and I was 47. It was very much fun.

32. What was one thing that would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Finding a cure for lipedema. Barring that, writing a best-seller, or Marty Casey winning Rock Star: INXS.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?

Casual and cushy.

34. What kept you sane?

LiveJournal, duh. Though occasionally I thought it was going to drive me insane, as well.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I suppose that would have to be Marty Casey, also. Genius is hot, and I don't pay much attention to celebrities, so the field is fairly narrow. I've got kind of a crush on Richard Feynman, but he's dead.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

The frelling Patriot Act.

37. Whom did you miss?

mamatyger!

38. Who was the best new person you met?

The Incredible Bouncing Woman. Actually, she may be the only new person I met (apart from various medical personnel), but she'd probably still top the list, even if I'd met hundreds.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.

If you want to do something, do it now, because this may be your best chance.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

I live, I breathe, I let it rain on me;
I sleep, I wake, I try hard not to break;
I crave, I love, I've waited long enough;
I try as hard as I can.

Well, there's 2005 out of the way, now. On to 2006!
